World Health Organization

A branch of the United Nations, the World Health Organization seeks to improve global health conditions, in part by publishing “evidence-based policy options.” The WHO’s Web site provides statistics and publications that contain country-specific data and insight into global health trends.

The publications page includes archived books, articles and magazines, all free to the public, on such topics as traveling, medications and epidemics. Facts on major world health issues are neatly organized under several categories—such as diseases, coverage of services, and mortality and health status—in the data and statistics section. The site’s program and projects page contains links to statistics, studies and other information on numerous health topics, such as cancer, HIV/AIDS and other diseases and ailments; drug resistance; immunization; and patient safety.
